The field services unit provides mandated
services to the defendants on juvenile and adult caseloads. The purpose of the unit is to
provide monitoring, supervision and referral services to defendants on the caseload as
well as
providing information to the Courts as required. The unit is comprised of the programs to
the right under the direct supervision of office managers in each of three (3) locations: |
Presentence Investigation
This unit produces reports for the criminal courts at the time of
sentencing so that Judges may have access to the maximum amount of information available.
The unit also performs criminal history checks on defendants for other jurisdictions.
Juvenile and Adult Probation
These staff supervise defendants in the
community in order monitor their activities, refer them to community agencies, and report
violations to the Court
Administrative Caseload
This caseload consists of transfer out cases,
warrants, and other kinds of administrative cases that require little or no contact with
the defendant.
Reporting Conditional Discharge
This large caseload requires minimal contact with
the officer and is monitored to insure that orders of the court are satisfied prior to the
date the case returns to court to avoid unnecessary continuances.
Support Services
Support staff provide routine office activities,
such as filing, mailing, duplicating, and forms production necessary to carry out the
mission of the department.
Community Restitution Service (CRS) Program
This program is a sentencing is a sentencing alternative
in which defendants can work at not-for-profit organizations in lieu of paying fines or as
compensation to the community. Three CRS Coordinators monitor defendants in the north end,
tri-city area, and south end of the county. Coordinators schedule offenders into
worksites, recruit worksites and train worksite personnel, and report offenders
compliance to the court.
Juvenile Placement Services
Placement services begin with a resource process to
determine which residential placement (if any) could best benefit the minor. After the
court orders the minor into placement, the coordinator makes arrangements to transfer the
juvenile to placement and monitor progress.
Pretrial Release Program
Two officers interview offenders newly jailed and conduct background
investigations to compile reports for judges to use in making custody release decisions.
This program is designed to help reduce the jail population by helping to identify
offenders least likely to reoffend and most likely to appear for future court proceedings. |
