Under the State Enabling Act, Kane County has a
Zoning Board of Appeals, appointed by the Chairman of the County Board and approved by the
members of the board.
This board consists of seven members from various sections of the
county, with not more than one from any one township. Each member is appointed for five
years. Members may be reappointed with approval of the County Board.
The Board holds public hearings in the various townships of the
county, to consider requests for rezonings of property, petitions for variations to the
zoning ordinance, appeals from rulings or decisions of the enforcing officer, and general
amendments to the zoning ordinance. In the matter of rezonings and general amendments to
the zoning ordinances, the Board makes recommendations to the County Board for action.
