The Kane County Department of Environmental Management was established in 1994 and is responsible for implementing the Kane County Stormwater Ordinance, the Kane County Stormwater Management Plan, the Kane County Solid Waste Plan, and administering the Solid Waste Ordinances of the Kane County Code. In addition, the Department administers the Kane County Recycling Program, including household hazardous waste, used motor oil, and electronics collection programs.

This Department provides staff for the Kane County Stormwater Committee to address ordinance revisions and other issues pertaining to the Countywide Stormwater Ordinance. Staff from the Department of Environmental Management also provide expertise and resources for the Kane County Development Committee and the Kane County Energy and Environmental Technology Committee. The Department works closely with other County Committees, Departments, and Divisions involving environmental concerns.
