The Department of Environmental Management was established in 1994 and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Kane County Comprehensive Stormwater Management Plan, the Kane County Countywide Stormwater Management Ordinance, the Kane County Solid Waste Plan, and administering the Solid Waste Ordinances of the County Code. 

This department provides the professional staff to the Kane County Stormwater Management Planning Committee (SMPC).  Under the direction of the SMPC, the department has directed the development and implementation of the Stormwater Management Plan and the Stormwater Management Ordinance.  (See Stormwater Management for more information).

This department administers and oversees the Settler's Hill Landfill, located in unincorporated Geneva.  In addition, this department administers the Kane County Recycling Program, household waste collection program, used oil collection program, latex paint collection program, recycling education program and tire collection programs.

Assistance is given to other County committees, County departments, and divisions involving environmental concerns.
