Latex Paint**

**What do I do with Latex Paint?
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency no longer accepts leftover latex (water-based) paint in its Household Hazardous waste (HHW) collections. This includes both one-day drop-off events and the weekend service at the Naperville fire station.

Modern latex paint is not considered hazardous for the environment. It can be placed in your regular garbage, once it has been solidified.

If there is just a small amount of paint remaining in the can, take the lids off and let the paint evaporate outside. For fuller cans, stir in an absorbent (either kitty litter or oil-dry work well). Then leave the lids off and place the solidified cans in your garbage.

Why does it have to be solidified? Because paint cans pop open in garbage trucks, the paint leaks out of the truck onto local streets, and gets on peoples’ cars, resulting in VERY upset people.

One more tip - - empty, dry paint cans and lids can be placed in your recycling bin.
