Domestic Violence Unit

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, Mutual Ground, and the Community Crisis Center are committed to ending domestic violence.  To that end, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office has formed a Domestic Violence Unit responsible for prosecution and victim coordination of all domestic violence cases.  This site will help educate you as to: the law as it pertains to domestic violence; what to do if you are the victim of domestic violence; what is an order of protection and how to get one; the services the Kane County State's Attorney's Office provides victims of domestic violence; the protocol that the Kane County State's Attorney's Office follows on domestic violence cases; the general process that is followed in court; and provide you with a safety plan to help you, should you decide the time is right to separate yourself from the abuser.
