Building and Permit Regulations

The division is charged with the enforcement of the Kane County Building Regulations. The Building staff processes applications for construction, checks building plans for compliance with the ordinances, and issues permits for construction activity. Regular systematic inspections are required for construction activities from the initial building location inspection to the final completion and issuance of a certificate of occupancy.

It is required that a building permit be obtained in advance whenever a building or structure, or parts of appurtenances thereof, such as water supply, sewage disposal, plumbing installation, electrical installation, and heating equipment, is erected, installed, altered, converted, remodeled, reroofed, structurally repaired, moved, or changed. A permit is not required for such things as sidewalks, driveways, non-privacy fences and painting.
