Bicycle/Pedestrian
Kane County has a significant network of existing regional bicycle trails and many shorter local trails. Local residents realize that using the Kane County trail network is healthy, an inexpensive hobby, environmentally friendly and fun way to travel. Now there is also the ability to bring your bikes on transit.
Kane County has recognized walking and biking not only as great recreational activities, but as excellent alternative forms of transportation and taken action to improve conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians. The Division of Transportation has a full-time staff member dedicated to bicycle and pedestrian planning, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations are now incorporated into all road improvements. Planning for and accommodating bicyclists and pedestrians in all development and construction projects is just one thing we can do to make biking and walking safer for all our residents.
The updated 2011-12 Kane and Northern Kendall County Public map, which includes existing local and regional trails is now available. A Planning Map, that includes existing and proposed regional and local trails, is also located on this page under Publications. You can view both maps by clicking on the links at the bottom of the page. To request a hard copy of the map, contact Mike Sullivan at sullivanmike@co.kane.il.us.
