Permit Engineer
Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) is seeking applications for a Permit Engineer.  This position evaluates and comments on development activities and highway permit submittals, tracks and maintains permit applications, reviews traffic studies, enforces regulations and policies relative to development activities and access, reviews and approves subdivision plats and right-of-way dedications and coordinates development plans and reviews with KDOT staff, outside engineering consultants, appropriate county staff, municipalities, IDOT, and other agencies as appropriate. The employee will insure that appropriate traffic control measures, construction materials, and procedures are used in the development of engineering plans. Other duties may include presentation of variances of access policies to the Kane County Board Transportation Committee, construction observation duties for select permit projects, and other tasks/projects as assigned from time to time by the Chief of Traffic & Permitting, County Engineer or Deputy Director.
The preferred candidate must have the ability to deal with the public in a professional manner – and answer and communicate effectively about highway design and traffic concerns.  The position requires general knowledge of highway signage and the ability to read and understand professional Civil Engineering drawings. 
 
The preferred candidate must have knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.  The job requires extensive use of computers and programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Publisher, HCS, and other traffic modeling software is preferred but not required.
 
The candidate should meet the following job requirements to be considered for this position:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and has passed the Engineering Fundamentals exam
• Experience in highway design, safety and traffic management is desired, but not required
• Knowledge of highway ordinances, codes, MUTCD Manual, federal and state design and construction standards and state statutes desired, but not required
• Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s license
