The Kane County Division of Transportation seeks applications for the full time position of Construction Resident Engineer/Project Manager. This position reports directly to the County Chief of Construction.  This position is responsible for supervising, coordinating and managing various highway construction projects and contracts either as a County Project Resident Engineer or Project Manager for a consulting Resident Engineer. Employee must be able to successfully coordinate planning and execution of multiple capital improvement projects with various municipalities and the State of Illinois (IDOT) in order to keep the contracts within budget and on schedule. Some duties and responsibilities may occur outside of regular work hours. The position requires above-average written and oral communication and organizational skills, the ability to work well with others and effectively manage time. The candidate should be a team player, self-starter and must understand civil engineering plans and specifications, working with survey instruments and data collection devices and should be able to complete construction inspection and coordination procedures in a safe and timely manner so as not to delay the contractor with proposed work items. The job requires extensive use of computers and programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher and IDOT ICORS.
The candidate must meet the following job requirements to be considered for this position:

• A minimum of 10 years progressive engineering and/or construction experience in the construction field, preferably road, highway and/or bridge/structure construction.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in project construction management;
• A working familiarity with Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction issued by IDOT, as well as MUTCD and MFT guidelines and procedures is preferred.
• Experience with the ICORS documentation system and IDOT documentation certification is preferred.
• Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s license.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering from an ABET-accredited University or College or a combination of Science based education and work experience.
• Experience with survey equipment and construction layout.
Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience of the desired candidate.
