General Questions

What are your office hours?
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed holidays.

How do I get to your office?
From the north:
Go south on Route 31, past Route 38 (Main Street Geneva). After going under the railroad overpass, the entrance to the Kane County complex will be on your left.
From the south:
Go north on Route 31, turn right into the Kane County complex at the first light after the intersection with Fabyan Parkway.
From the west:
Go east on Route 38 into Geneva. Go south on Third Street to traffic light after railroad tracks. The Kane County complex is straight through the intersection.

The County Assessment Office is located in Building C of the Kane County complex, on the top floor.

Property Information Questions

What is the square footage of my house?
We do not have that information, contact your Township Assessor or visit their website.

My square footage is incorrect on the assessor's website, can it be corrected?
Yes, contact your Township Assessor.

Do I have to apply for model home and open space each year?
Yes, the applications can be downloaded here, or you can pick one up at our office.

My assessment is too high, what can I do?
Contact your Township Assessor first, then you may file a real estate complaint with our office and a hearing will be scheduled with the Board of Review. You have until September 10th or 30 days from the date of publication in order to file a complaint with our office.

How long will it take for a certificate of error to be processed?
Six to eight weeks from the tax bill mailing date.

How long will it take for my refund check to be sent?

How can I get a duplicate tax bill?
Contact the Treasurer's Office

How do I change the mailing address on my tax bill?
Send a letter stating the parcel number and new address to:

Request must be signed and dated by the owner. If the parcel is in a trust, the request must be signed by the bank trust officer.

I am buying my house on contract. Why didn't I receive a tax bill?
The party from whom you purchased the house is responsible for the tax bill until the contract is fulfilled and a deed is recorded placing you in title.

How to figure assessed value from market value?
Take the sale price and multiply by .3333 which equals the estimated assessed value. For more information contact our office.
